EDWARDS Family of Cramahe Twp.
Contributed by: Sharon PARENT at
William B. Edwards, a native of England, and his Kingston born wife, Bridget
Jane Delaroy, moved from Kingston, to Prince Edward County, then finally
settled in Cramahe on Lot 30, Conc 5,
a short time before the year 1861..
William and his family are included in the census records for Cramahe
Township for the years 1861 to 1881. William was a cooper by trade and in
1871 was recorded as operating a Cooper Shop.
He and Bridget had 9 children; William O., John Albert, Stephen Henry,
Samuel James, Emma Jane, Charles Uriah, George, Levi and Robert D. A grand
daughter, Agnes Jane, lived with them from the time of her birth sometime
around the year 1872.
Her parentage is still a mystery at this time.
The Edwards' clan were Episcopal as the records indicate this from about
1841 to 1881.
William B. Edwards moved to Cardiff, along with half of his family.
This half was comprised of Emma Jane (William Smith), Samuel James
(Charlotte Young) , George (Mary Ann Simmons) and Levi (Mary Loucinda
Williams), his wife Bridget and his grand daughter Agnes.
A change of location brought with it a change of faith as they are
listed as Baptists in all records, from this point on.
William B. Edwards died in Cardiff in January of 1897.
The rest of his family; Stephen Henry ( Elizabeth Fowler) Charles Uriah
and John Albert , appear to have remained in Colborne, where they are buried
.
What happend to William's wife Bridget and the rest of the family that
moved to Cardiff remains yet a mystery to be solved.
