The PRINGLE family, one of Ontario's Loyalist families, were present in Brighton Township as early as 1842 and probably a few years earlier. Caleb PRINGLE, the son of Richard Pringle of Richmond, whose own father was Joseph Pringle, UE; married Olive MCCUMBER of Richmond. For whatever reason, as yet undiscoverd, they moved to the portion of Cramahe Township which subsequently became part of Brighton Township. They had Elizabeth, George, Matilda, Daniel, James, Emeline, Caroline, Sarah, and Alice. Sarah married Miles WART of Storrington Township, Frontenac County and died in Kingston, Ontario in 1921.

GILLETT Family of Brighton and Elsewhere
My ancestor, Reuben GILLETT, and wife, Lydia AVERY, moved to Cramhe with their nine children in 1824. Reuben earned his living as a farmer. Both Reuben and Lydia were born in NY State and as were their children. Reuben remained in Northumberland Co until he died on 9 Feb 1862. The children of his that remained in the area were Avery, Abijah and George. Reuben and Lydia had five daughters which I have not been able to identify, but some of them must have remained in Northumberland Co. My ancestor, Samuel , remained in Brighton, Northumberland Co until after his first son was born in 1834 before he moved on.
