JOHN SPENCER and Alice (Schofield) Spencer immigrated from Manchester England to the Eastern States- around Vermont between Sept 1840 and June 1841. They then proceeded to Montreal where they were quarantined for measles. They originally settled in Bloomfield Prince Edward County and finally Warkworth, Northumberland County. They brought six children with them:
1. John b. July 12, 1829 ; m. Sarah Jane Dunk
2. Elizabeth "Betsy" b. Feb 20, 1830 ; m. John Love Curtis
3. Alice b. Jan 2, 1832 ; m. John Petherick
4. Anne b. Sept 25, 1834 ; m. William Rishor
5. James Thomas b. Mar 1836 ; m. 1) Ann McFarlen, 2) Julia Bustrack
and either
6. Eli b. ?
or
7. Mary Ann b. ?
One of these two children died in Montreal while in quarantine for measles. The other is believed to have died at a young age in Manchester. Another child
8. Christine "Cresey" b. 1837 .....died Feb 16 1839 at 1 year 4 months of measles in Manchester.
Four younger children were born in Canada:
9. Eliza b. Dec 24, 1841 ; m. Comfort Curtis
10.Jane b. June 20, 1844 ; m. David John Swinton
11. Mathew b. Apr 15, 1846; m. Sarah Ann Martin
12. Mark b. Apr 15, 1846; m. Ellen Bannon
