The Church Minutes Book for the First Baptist Church of Wicklow, Ontario, including Cramahe and Haldimand is found on microfilm #0897919 of the LDS Family History Center collection. One of the earliest entries is dated June 25, 1794, where the group assembled at Cramahe. Brother Reubin CRANDAL and Brother Thomas EVERTON told of their experiences, as well as Sister Lydey CRANDAL and Brother YOUNKER at the meeting. Brother Thomas EVERTON was the Church Clark (Clerk) according to the entry. The first Baptist Ordination in Ontario is noted in the entry of October 27, 1799 at Hallowell. Brother Reubin CRANDAL was ordained as an Evangelist by Elder WINN. The Church met at Cramahe, Haldimand and several other places over the early years, with many people being baptized and joining the Church.
Prior to 1816-1817 time period, there was no division between the members of the two townships of Cramahe and Haldimand. In 1820 several members united and formed the Cramahe Church. The document is handwritten, but is fairly legible on the microfilm.
The Minutes Book for 1834-1855 contains a list of Church members, showing the how they were accepted into the membership and their status. It begins on the inside cover of the book and follows on what may have been empty pages. It is believed the original list was made by the Church clerk, Platt Hinman, since the handwriting is consistent. The book bears the stamp of the Baptist Historical Archives and may have been annotated by that group. A cross check of several of the entries indicates the list was extracted from the details of the minutes in the book, itself. A new Church Minute Book was started for 1856 and the names of members in good standing were identified for transferal. The following is a list of those members, published here in the hopes that you will find an ancestor.
