This 1869 Victoria County Directory was originally purchased by Thomas Stephenson, my ggrandfather, who undoubtedly used it for business and political purposes. It has certainly been well 'thumbed' through over the past 130 years. I do not know of any other surviving copies. The recently released 'updated ?' version of the Victoria County Atlas purports to have included this Directory, but a look at my original copy will quickly reveal the shortcomings of this claim. The Directory and contents are an extremely valuable resource for locating the exact location of your ancestors, especially those in the townships, where Concession and Lot number are given, as well as an indication of whether the occupant was a tenant or landowner. Land registry records for individual properties may be available. Land registry records contain valuable information, particularily arrival/departure dates for your ancestors. For further information on individual land registry records please email me. I would request that anyone wanting to reproduce any of these images contact me beforehand. My email address is at the bottom of this page.

The 1869 Victoria Directory may be accessed from the link below. At present this is simply a directory of 125 JPG files. You can browse these files or you can get a rough idea of the page location of the village/town/township you are interested in by first looking at INDEX1.JPG or INDEX2.JPG. For example Omemee Village listings would begin at VICTD55.JPG and Emily Twp. listings would begin with VICTD75.JPG . Gravenhurst village begins at VICTD23.JPG and continues on VICTD24.JPG. At some point we will get a point and click index or map of some sort (and if anyone with .html knowledge has any any suggestions on the code involved, I would like to hear them).
