ATTEMPTED MURDER, - The Bury Green correspondent says: - Our usually quiet neighbourhood was recently thrown into a state of excitement by the attempted assassination of Mr. Ellis, postmaster, of this place. It appears on the night of the 11th inst., hearing a noise about ten o’clock he arose and opened the door to see what was the matter, when he was instantly fired upon by one of the two men whom he then observed about four rods distant. The ball in its course shattered one of his toes and lodged in the foot, from which it was extracted some time afterward by the doctor. It is to be hoped that the perpetrators of such an outrage will speedily be secured and brought to justice, as it is most undesirable that such cowardly ruffians should be at large in any community. Warrants were issued for the arrest of a certain suspected person, but hearing of the affair he concluded that discretion was the better part of valour, and suddenly took leg-bail.
