AN ENTERPRISING VILLAGE - Coboconk 1905

Coboconk Business Firms Advancing

Tourists Satisfied With the Burg - Butter Factories Busy Improvement in Mail Service Appreciated

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our village has had a very prosperous summer, and has made more real advancement than at any time in its history.

The Pattie house has been patronized by a large number of tourists. Mr. Jackson, its proprietor, is popular with the traveling public, and the improvements to the hotel have induced many new visitors to the village, all of whom have been delighted with their stay here, and promise to return again with their friends.

Ham & Sons butter factory has been a great boom to the farmers in this neighbourhood. The firm has distributed over $14,000 in hand cash during the last five months, which has been an inducement to our farmers who have ranching land, to go more extensively into dairying. Many farmers have averaged $50 in cash a month for the five months the factory has been in operation.

J.R. Philips & Sons butter factory, has had a very profitable season, and has afforded employment to about twenty hands.

R. Callan, our lime merchant, has been overhauling his kilns, and has expended $1,500 in improvements. He has given employment to a good staff of men during the entire season, and his output has been larger than in any previous year.

The village can boast of having a first-class piece of granolithic walk, which was put down by Mr. Callan. It is a very creditable piece of work.

A. Clifford & Sons are advancing. They have always had a good mill and their latest improvement is to add a new chopper, which will chop about 40 bags an hour and do much better than the old stones. Farmers can now have their chop while they wait.

Mr. and Mrs. Jackson have returned home after a very pleasant visit at Brantford.

The Gull River Lumber Co. has had a very successful season and a large cut. They have given employment to a large number of men, and have distributed many dollars in wages this season. They contemplate extensive improvements before starting up next spring.

The improvement in the mail service is greatly appreciated by the villagers as it arrives daily from Fenelon Falls in the afternoon and not some time in the night as it did under the old Sam Hughes’ system when it was teamed form Lorneville.
