CONKLIN FAMILY of Cramahe Township, 1802 - 1859

Joshua CONKLIN lived in New York State where he owned and farmed 200 acres until 1802 when he moved to Concession 4, Lot 32, Cramahe Twp, Northumberland Co, Ontario, Canada. He married Rachel EDO and gave issue to at least one child, David CONKLIN.

David CONKLIN, was born in 1803, on Lot 32, Concession 4, Cramahe Twp, Northumberland Co, Ontario, Canada. He married in Colbourg, Ontario,15 Apr 1834, to Caroline DEAN, of Hamilton Township.He died on 20 Jan 1894 in St Clair Co, MI and is probably buried in Rattle Run Cemetery along with his wife. Several of the stones have been overturned making it difficult to read the inscriptions. David had 150 acres of land in Canada where he farmed 80 acres. In 1859 he and his family moved to Michigan where they purchased 160 acres and remained for many years.

They had five children: William C CONKLIN; Rebecca S CONKLIN; Hannah A CONKLIN; Joshua W CONKLIN, b. 8 May 1842, Cramahe Twp.,d. 12 Mar 1921, m., 24 Dec 1875 Elizabeth C GRANGER, 6 children, m. 2nd to Jennie JONES Videau on 19 Sep 1894, originally from Bellville, Ontario; and Rachel Melissa CONKLIN, born 19 October 1844 at Cramahe Township, Northumberland Co.

Rachel Melissa CONKLIN died 12 Mar 1921 at St Clair Co MI and is buried at Hillside Cemetery, St Clair, St Clair Co, Mi. Rachel, or Melissa as she was known to her family, traveled from Canada to Michigan with her parents in 1859 and settled in Columbia Twp, St Clair Co, Mi. She married 26 Oct 1862 to George Henry MITCHELL, moved to his farm in St Clair Twp. They had a daughter named Harriet Caroline MITCHELL who married Charles WILLIAMS; my grandparents.

Melissa and Henry had nine children, all born in St. Clair Township, St. Clair Co, MI: Emma MITCHELL, b. 1864; m. Alex KENNEDY; . Harriet Caroline MITCHELL, born 8 Dec 1864, died 8 May 1933 and married on 19 Mar 1890 to F. Charles WILLIAMS, who was born 4 Jan 1858, also at St. Clair Twp; Ann MITCHELL, b. 1867; m. Wilmer WILLIAMS ; . Louise Melissa MITCHELL, b. 1868, m. 1890 James Orange FULTON; Elizabeth MITCHELL, b. May 1871, m. George HETHERINGTON; Frederick MITCHELL, b. Apr 1873, m. 1907 Mary GERMAN, d. 22 Sep 1948; Louis G MITCHELL, b. 1875, m1st. Mae FULTON, m. 2nd Emma ELLSWORTH, d. 17 Aug 1929; James Albert MITCHELL, b. 30 Jul 1880, m. Clar CAMPBELL, d. 8 Jul 1936; and David W MITCHELL, b. 19 Jul 1882, d. 29 Apr 1888.
