Alnwick Township Harper Family

Hello Michael Stephenson

You have an excellent web site and I really enjoyed it. The Harper family which I mention below has some connection to a Jane Stevenson (a relation?).

My name is Bruce MacDonald. Since you are doing some work on the pioneers of Haldimand and Alnwick I thought I would give you some further information. My mother, Alma Ophelia Harper is descended from George Harper and Mary Halstead of Alnwick, Northumberland West, Ontario. George Harper was born about 1840 in Ontario and my grandfather thinks he died in Alnwick in about 1905 when a kerosene lamp exploded. He was probably the George Harper who was the Postmaster in Fennell, Haldimand, Northumberland West, Ontario from 1867 to 1872 but this is also unconfirmed.

George Harper and Mary Halstead had a number of children including:

1. Frederick W. Harper (August 18, 1867-March 31, 1951) of Neepawa/Rosedale m. 1st Blanche Kilburn (my mother's grandparents) and m. 2nd Celia Pearce. Frederick W. Harper's daughter Laura Harper married Forbes Stevenson. 2. Annie Harper bc1870 3. Frank H. Harper bc1875 moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan 4. Gertrude Harper bc1876 5. Ethel May Harper (b. October 5, 1882 in Alnwick) married an O'Connor and moved to Chicago, Illinois 6. Mary Ann Harper moved to Detroit, Michigan

I hope this helps someone.
