Fenelon Falls Pioneer Settlers

BEXLEY, W.S., general blacksmith and manufacture of waggons, & c. Was born in Prince Edward County in 1840. Settled here in 1860.

RUTHERFORD, ROBERT, proprietor of the MacArthur House, with livery in connection. Has lived in the County since 1861. Born in Peterborough in 1848.

DEYMAN, H. undertaker at Fenelon Falls. He came to the County in 1864 from England. Born, 1846.

SANDFORD, F., general blacksmith and manufacturer of waggons, carriages, &c. Came from Hastings County in 1869. Born 1847.

DICKSON, JAMES, land surveyor, has resided here since 1869; been Reeve of the village since 1877, and for three years was on the school-board. In 1877 he received the appointment of J.P. He is also a commissioner in Q.B., and a Conveyancer.

ELLISON, GEORGE, civil engineer. Is resident engineer on the Victoria Railway. Is a native of North wales. Born in 1838. Came here in 1874.

ELLIS, JOHN A., general grocer, agent for Canada Western and L.S.C., and broker. Owns 100 acres of Lot 13, con. 11, and 200 in Lot 22, Con.9, Fenelon township. Was born in the County in 1842.

GACHELL, G.H., County constable, and also carries Her Majesty's mails. He was born at Whitby in 1853, and came to the County two years after.

GAGE, D., Millwright, and foreman for R.C. Smith, Port Hope. Came to the county in 1869. Born in Cobourg in 1837.

HERRON, W.P., school teacher, came here in 1858. Is a Canadian.

INGRAM, N., hotel-keeper. Is a Canadian. Came here in 1865.

LAXTON, J.C., tailor. Was born in England in 1830. Settled here in 1879.

LOCKHART, T., station agent at Fenelon Falls for Victoria R.R., and has lived here since 1864. Was born in Durham County, Ontario.

LOWE, DR. J.H., physician and surgeon. Is a graduate of Edinburgh University, and came here in January, 1881. Born in scotland, 1849.

MCARTHUR, J., grain-dealer and proprietor of livery stable in connection with McArthur's hotel. Has been a Councillor, and was born in the county in 1838.

MCARTHUR, A., lumberman. Born in Ops township, 1836.

POWER, J.J., school trustee and J.P.; has also been a Councillor. Has lived in the County since birth (1840).

QUIBELL, G.R., barber. Was born in Victoria County in 1861.

READE, DR. T.L., physician, was born in Elgin county in 1850, settling here in 1877.

SMITH, D.G., proprietor of shingle factory. Born in Scotland in 1840. Came here in 1870.

SPROAT, ALEXANDER, carpenter. Was born in England.

SWANTON, S., contractor. Has held various public offices in the county, being Assessor and Collector, also Councillor. He has lived in the County since 1856. Born in York County, 1841.

THOMSON, JOHN, lumberman. Owns 100 acres of Lot 3, Front Range, Somerville Township. Born in Addington County in 1845. Settled here in 1870.

UNDERWOOD, G.B., manager for R.C. Smith, lumber merchant. Here since 1878. Born in New York state in 1837.

WHITTY, T.J., farmer. He owns 100 acres in Verulam Township - the west half Lot 20, Con.4. Has lived in the County since 1866. Born in Ontario, 1855.

WHYTALL, E.B., butcher. Born in England in 1852. Has lived in Victoria County since 1864.

WILSON, DR. ARCHIBALD, physician and surgeon. Graduated at Toronto University and Trinity College in 1878. Settled here the same year. Born in Durham County in 1852.
